Tone Ability FC is celebrating after receiving £1,500 from Somerset Community Foundation
Somerset-based charity Tone Ability FC is celebrating after receiving £1,500 from Somerset Community Foundation, thanks to generous contributions from property developer Summerfield and the Somerset Freemasons.
Award-winning Tone Ability FC is a football club for children aged 5-15 years who have learning, sensory or physical disabilities. The club is run by Football Association coaches who are trained to work with, and support, young people with disabilities in Somerset, and they train at Taunton YMCA. Many people with a disability encounter barriers that prevent or make it more difficult for them to participate fully in community life and the coaches work hard to reduce discrimination and challenge negative attitudes within the community towards the players. The team was recognised for their work in 2013 by Somerset FA, winning the Disability Club of the Season award.
Club secretary and head coach, Ken Pearson, who applied for the grant awarded by Somerset Community Foundation, said: “The £1,500 grant will go a long way towards supporting the club's progress and will be used to buy a new kit for each player, pay for the club ground facilities and enable Tone Ability FC to start playing against other disability clubs in Somerset. Not all players can afford to supply their own kit, so the team will truly benefit from a greater morale and enthusiasm wearing a full team club strip.”
Both Summerfield and Somerset Freemasons regularly top up their funds held by the Somerset Community Foundation, who then allocate grants to local grassroots groups in the county.
Chris Winter, managing director of Summerfield, was happy to help: “Charitable giving is a big part of what we do at Summerfield; we always like to support projects in and around Somerset that are helping to strengthen the communities in which we live. Access to a rich and dynamic social and cultural life is essential for everyone and Tone Ability are doing a great job of helping young children with disabilities to achieve this. Summerfield is delighted to help with this latest donation.”
