Celebrating Two Years of Social Investment
November marks the 2nd anniversary of the launch of the Somerset Social Enterprise Fund.
The Fund is a partnership between Somerset County Council and Somerset Community Foundation, which aims to support the establishment, development and growth of VSCE organisations across Somerset. For applicants, a mix of loan and grant funding is accompanied by expert support, advice and guidance in preparation of loan applications and supporting business plans.
Since launching the Fund, over £120,000 of social investment has been agreed. Borrowers have used the investment for building a clubhouse, buying a commercial vehicle and developing a wellbeing centre for disabled people.
During this time we have discovered that a common perception amongst leaders and managers of VCSE organisations is that they are not social entrepreneurs or involved in ‘social enterprise’. But, if you are someone involved in an organisation that provides solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues, then you might be eligible for social investment.
