All other applications will be looked at immediately and a decision given within approximately two weeks.

Applications for driving lessons can only be considered if driving is an integral part of the intended employment, ie: mobile hairdressing, community nurse, lorry driving, tractor driving etc.

What is the Eagle House Educational Trust?

In 1740, Eagle House was designed and built by the architect for Georgian Bath, John Wood the Younger.  It continued to be used as a family home until 1942.  For the next forty years it was used to provide housing and education for local young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.  The house was sold in 1982 by Somerset County Council, and the Eagle House Educational Trust was set up from the proceeds.   Since 2011, the Eagle House Trust has been managed by the Somerset Community Foundation.

What Does it Do?

The Trust offers financial assistance to children and young people in Somerset and historic Avon (eg: Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire) who have been looked after in foster/residential care or have received considerable support from Children’s Social Care at some point in their lives.

Who can apply?

Applications will be considered from young people aged between 16-24 years of age (at time of applying) who have been looked after in foster/residential care or have received substantial support from the Children’s Social Care Authorities listed:   Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire

You will also need to provide a reference from a professional within Children’s Social Care. All information provided will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.

How much can I apply for?

Grants of up to £500 are available per year.  However, if you wish to purchase a laptop, there is a standard grant of £300 maximum and your application will go into an annual competitive round in October - please refer to notes above.

You can contact the office for an application form or download the form. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

Eagle House University Bursary Scheme

Eagle House bursaries are also available for those going to university. The scheme will reopen later in 2017.
